Bill White Releases Financial Records

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Democratic gubernatorial candidate Bill White is releasing his tax returns for the years he served as Houston mayor.

Republican Gov. Rick Perry has been pounding White for weeks for not giving more detail about his income and business relationships.

The returns released Tuesday show White made more than $1 million a year during his tenure as mayor of the state’s largest city, from 2004-2008. White reported $4.6 million in adjusted gross income in 2005, the highest earnings in the six-year period.

His lowest income came in 2009, when White reported $660,000 in income.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Former Houston Mayor Bill White tells The Associated Press he’s made money by investing in a company that was hired to help the city recover from Hurricane Rita.

White is the Democratic candidate for Texas governor, and he was widely praised for guiding Houston through Rita and its aftermath in September 2005.

As mayor, White helped line up private companies to provide goods and services as part of a massive relief effort. One of those companies was Btec Turbines, where he had served on the board of directors. The company won an emergency contract with the regional Coastal Water Authority.

A little more than a year later, White says he invested about $1 million in the privately held Btec and has since reported more than $500,000 in profit.
