KILGORE, Texas (AP) _ Officials credit seatbelts for saving eight student passengers from injury when their school bus collided with a truck and overturned on an east Texas highway.
Trooper Brandon Boulware of the Texas Department of Public Safety says the bus was eastbound on Farm-to-Market Road 349 Wednesday afternoon when driver Shelby Warren lost control on a curve. Boulware says the rear end of the bus struck an oncoming truck and overturned.
Kilgore school Superintendent Jody Clements tells the Longview News-Journal that paramedics examined the special-needs students and found them uninjured. Another bus was dispatched to take them home.
The DPS cited Warren for driving at an unsafe speed. Boulware says she approached the curve at 45-55 mph under wet conditions.
Clements says she has been placed on paid leave until the investigation is completed.
