Convicted Husband Killer Could Be Resentenced

HOUSTON (AP) _ A judge in Houston today ruled a woman convicted of stabbing her husband 193 times and burying him in the backyard — could get a new sentence.

The judge decided that testimony that could have bolstered her claims of spousal abuse was never presented at Susan Wright’s trial.

The case now heads to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals to decide whether a new punishment phase for Wright is warranted.

Wright was sentenced to 25 years in prison after being convicted for the 2003 killing of Jeffrey Wright.

Prosecutors claimed the former topless dancer seductively tied her 34-year-old husband to the bed before stabbing him.

The case drew attention when prosecutors set up the couple’s bed and bloodstained mattress in the courtroom — to bolster their case with a dramatization.

Prosecutors say the man was slain for his life insurance.
