Educators Resign in TAKS Probe

HOUSTON (AP) _ Five educators in a Houston-area district have quit after alleged evidence of cheating on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills exam.

Two administrators and three teachers resigned Monday from the Galena Park Independent School District.

District spokesman Craig Eichhorn says the resignations include Dianne Edwards, who was principal of Normandy Crossing Elementary School, assistant principal Tonia Bush and three teachers whose names were not immediately released.

The Houston Chronicle reported Tuesday that all fifth-graders at Normandy Crossing in June must retake the math and reading sections of the TAKS test. A district investigation turned up evidence that some educators changed wrong answers during the April testing.

The Texas Education Agency will be notified.
