JFK Museum Closed After Burglary Attempt

DALLAS (AP) _ Authorities say the Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas is closed after a security officer foiled an attempted robbery in the building that served as a perch for President John F. Kennedy’s assassin.

Outside the museum, the suspects left behind a safe from the museum attached to a winch in a truck bed.

Dallas County sheriff’s spokeswoman Kim Leach says the officer was making rounds early Tuesday when he saw a suspicious vehicle and noticed two male suspects.

Leach says the suspects jumped into a truck and drove at the officer, who fired his weapon. Leach says the suspects fled on foot, leaving behind the safe. Leach did not know the contents of the safe.

Leach says the officer wasn’t injured. She had no details on the conditions of the suspects, who remained at large.
