Texas A&M senior placekicker Randy Bullock was named one of three finalists for the 2011 Lou Groza Award, which is given annually to the nation’s top collegiate placekicker.
As a finalist, Bullock has been invited to the Home Depot College Football Awards, which will be broadcast live on Thursday, Dec. 9 at 6 p.m. CT on ESPN and hosted by ESPN’s Chris Fowler, Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreit. The other finalists are junior Dustin Hopkins of Florida State and junior Caleb Sturgis of Florida.
Bullock, from Klein, Texas, has had a spectacular senior season. The Big 12 Conference leader in field goals has already matched the season school record of 21 field goals, which was set originally by Scott Slater in 1986. He has scored 114 points this season, which is No. 2 in school history behind only Joel Hunt’s 84-year old school standard of 128 points in 1927.
Bullock has connected on 21-of-25 three-point attempts for an impressive 84.0 percent success rate (No. 2 in school history). He has also connected on 51 extra points, which matches the school record originally set by Terry Venetoulias in 1993 and matched previously by Bullock in 2009.
The most accurate placekicker in school history, Bullock has connected on 55-of-73 field goal attempts during his career. Bullock is A&M’s career leader in points scored with 337, and he ranks No. 1 in career extra points (172) and No. 4 in career field goals.
Bullock will continue his assault on the Texas A&M record book when the Aggies and Longhorns play for the 118th time on Thursday, Thanksgiving night at 7 p.m. at Kyle Field.
