St. Joseph’s Won’t Renew Hospital Contract With Scott & White

For the second time in three months there’s a business decision involving the St. Joseph Health System and customers of Scott & White health insurance.

St. Joseph’s officials have announced not renewing its hospital services contract with the Scott & White Health Plan. After May 1st 2012, St. Joseph’s will be considered out of network.

This announcement follows Scott & White not renewing its agreement with over 50 physicians and specialists who are with St. Joseph’s medical group.

St. Joseph’s President Tony Pfitzer says Scott & White building a hospital in College Station meant St. Joseph’s couldn’t be a partner and a competitor.

Spokesman Tim Ottinger says St. Joseph’s board and administration aren’t overly nervous about the future revenue decrease when they lose several thousand patients.

Ottinger says they’ll continue to promote its services and recruit other insurance providers.

Tim Ottinger of St. Joseph Health System visits with WTAW’s Bill Oliver.
