Ducks Shot With Crossbow in CS Park Pond

The College Station Police and Parks departments are dealing with ducks shot with what appears to be dart-like objects fired from a mini-crossbow.

Officer Rhonda Seaton says last Friday, animal control officers from the police department found one duck in the pond at Gabbard Park with what looked like to be a small arrow above one of its legs.  Two attempts have been made to rescue the duck, which is staying in the middle of the pond.  Seaton says Parks and Recreation staff will put a boat on the pond to retrieve the animal.

On Monday, Seaton says animal control officers returned to the park and found a Pekin duck with a small metal arrow stuck in its left wing.  That duck was captured and taken to the Texas A&M Small Animal Veterinary Hospital to receive treatment.

Seaton says a third duck was injured, as an arrow was found in its beak.  The arrow was removed and the duck has been been relocated to what’s believed to be a safer home.

Authorities are hoping to catch those responsible before any more animals or any people are hurt.  Seaton says she is not aware of investigators finding any misfired ammunition.  And there’s been no report of any people being hit.

Officer Rhonda Seaton visits with WTAW’s Bill Oliver about ducks being shot in Gabbard Park.
