SUGAR LAND, Texas (AP) _ Gov. Rick Perry says the crash of a small plane into an Austin office building housing an IRS office shows risk of having a free society.
Speaking to reporters after a campaign stop in the Houston suburb of Sugar Land on Thursday, he said there were military and intelligence resources deployed around the state to diminish the vulnerability of potential targets.
“Our hope is the days of flying aircraft into buildings or other structures is over,” Perry said. “You always have some exposure in a free society, so the balance is finding how to protect and also protect the freedoms and liberties.”
Perry also lauded “first responders and everyday citizens” for acts of heroism, securing the area, evacuating the building and controlling the fire.
