Thanks to Leon County Emergency Management Coordinator Pat Bell for this wildfire update.
This information was sent shortly after 3 p.m. Monday, September 5:
Current situation on fires in Leon County. A fire started in the Concord Robbins area in the early afternoon of Sunday September 4.
Response was immediate, but the winds hampered every effort to get the fire under control. A tree fell on an electrical transformer, and shorted it out causing sparks to ignite the fire.
Fire fighters from 11 fire departments responded to assist Leon County, as well as state agencies and local helicopter services. Affected areas were evacuated, as firefighters worked through a windy night to contain the fire.
As of Monday afternoon, approx. 3645 acres have burned in the Concord Robbins area. Thirty two structures have been destroyed, but our volunteer fire fighters have saved untold numbers of homes in the area.
A fire line has been created around the affected area, but continuous rekindling of fires are testing the resources of the responding Fire Departments.
Also on Sunday afternoon, there was a large fire in the Flo area. Flo, Buffalo and Oakwood Volunteer Fire fighters contained and monitored through Sunday Night.
Leon County has some of the most dependable businesses and citizens when it comes to a time of need, and they have never let us down.
Thanks for your continued support and prayers.
