Former Brazos County Tax Assessor-Collector Buddy Winn said Tuesday he is not running for the Texas House District 14 seat.
Instead, because his home lies within the proposed District 12, he will explore a run for that seat. District 12 is part of the proposed once-a-decade redistricting plan for Texas.
If the map is approved, most of Brazos County would remain in District 14. However, a sizable portion would be in District 12, stretching to McLennan County.

Winn, who spent more than 30 years as tax assessor-collector, released the following statement:
“Once Rep. Brown announced that he would not seek re-election to the Texas House, I received an outpouring of support and encouragement to run for HD 14,” said Winn.
“However, after reviewing the new redistricting map, it has become apparent that as of January 1 of 2012, my residence no longer resides within the boundaries of HD 14. Instead my home is within the newly created HD 12.
For that reason, I will not run for HD 14. I sincerely appreciate the hundreds of calls, emails and kind words from all over our great state encouraging me to run for state representative.
Over the next few weeks, I will be exploring the newly created HD 12 to determine the level of support for my candidacy and will make my intentions known in the near future.”
