College Station And Bryan Police Deal With Drivers Demonstrating “Hooligan” Behavior

College Station police goes to Facebook attempting to stop racing and burnouts at Veterans Park. The CSPD Facebook post agrees to meet with car clubs who want to legitimately want to “park and chill”, while addressing groups that quoting the Facebook post “do hooligan stuff”. The CSPD Facebook post did not say if any suspects were identified or if any arrests were made. Bryan police also dealt with racing and burnouts that a BPD spokesman told WTAW News spilled from Veterans Park into the parking lot of the Bryan Target store. The BPD spokesman said that was where a single gunshot was heard by a local off duty constable. BPD officers who responded to the Target parking lot off Wildflower Drive found evidence of fired shots. No casualties or damage were reported.

The Texas American Legion’s New State Commander Comes From Bryan

A member of the Bryan American Legion post is the new state commander. Tom Marty, who was elected Sunday (July 14), also served as the state’s vice commander, and commander of Bryan’s post 159. He also helped as the state’s training chair to launch a mobile training team to assist legion posts around the state. News release from Tom Marty: Brazos Valley veteran and former Commander of the American Legion Post 159 in Bryan, Tom Marty, was elected as American Legion State Commander at the annual convention in Austin, Texas on Sunday, July 14, 2024. Marty has served at the District Level as Vice-Commander and at the State level as the Training Chair for 6 years, where he helped to launch Texas Legion College, a mobile training team that delivers training to Legionnaires at Posts across the state. After completing a year as State Vice Commander in 2023, he made the commitment to traveling state-wide for a year to visit as many Posts as possible as he campaigned for State Commander. Marty served in the United States Air Force as a Security Policeman from 1981-1987, followed by a 32-year career as a civilian policeman and investigator. Since retirement in 2013, Marty has dedicated his time to serving the community as a volunteer at the Bush Presidential Library, the City of College Station Parks Board, Brazos County Veterans/Mental Health Court Committee, Brazos County Veteran Service Officer Search Committee and Wellborn Baptist Church. As Texas Commander, Marty will lead the American Legion’s efforts statewide in membership recruitment and retention, public relations, and promotion of local American Legion programs and services to the community.

Texas A&M’s President Announces Two Leadership Searches Will Be Starting As Two More Are Coming To An End

For the third time in as many days, Texas A&M announces an update to searches in leadership positions. President Mark Welsh posted on his website Thursday (July 11), two searches will begin this fall and two others are coming to an end. Welsh said the dean at A&M’s veterinary school, John August, will retire in May 2025. Welsh says August, who will finish a nearly 40 year career at A&M, will stay while a national search is conducted. The president also said there will be a second search for dean of A&M’s school of architecture. Welsh says that follows the provost reviewing the report of the first search committee, the provost’s interaction with the finalists, and feedback from the campus community. Welsh says he has received recommendations for A&M’s next vice provost of faculty affairs and a decision is expected in early August. And Welsh says final recommendations for dean of A&M’s graduate and professional school have been forwarded to the provost and an announcement is expected soon. The president’s announcements follows naming a permanent chief operating officer, the permanent dean of A&M’s school of performance, visualization, and fine arts, and the new dean of the Bush school of government.
