DNA Tests Delay Cleveland Sexual Assault Case

LIBERTY, Texas (AP) _ Delays in DNA testing have prompted a judge to reset until October the cases of 14 men accused of taking part in a series of sexual assaults on an 11-year-old girl in a small southeast Texas town.

Prosecutor Joe Warren said during hearings held in a state district courtroom in Liberty on Wednesday that it could be up to six weeks before the testing is complete.

The cases that have divided and horrified the town where the alleged sexual assaults took place were reset until Oct. 3. Five juvenile boys also have been charged.

Prosecutors say the girl was assaulted on at least five occasions from mid-September to early December in Cleveland, a small town about 45 miles northeast of Houston.
