The final standings in the Learfield Director’s Cup Standings has been released and Texas A&M finished 8th. That’s the best among Big 12 schools in the race for the best overall Division I Collegiate Sports Program.
Last year A&M had its best ever finish of 6th.
For a 17th straight year, Stanford won the Director’s Cup, followed by Ohio State, Cal, Florida, Duke, North Carolina, Virginia, A&M, Florida State and Oklahoma was 10th. Texas finished 12th.
The Director’s Cup regards final standings in 20 sports (10 men’s and 10 women’s), including many that A&M does not field.
A&M stood 56th after the Fall Sports and climbed from there.
In Spring Sports, A&M finished in the top 10 in men’s and women’s golf, baseball, softball, men’s tennis, and ofcourse took top points in men’s and women’s Track & Field.
Back in the winter, A&M took ofcourse top points in women’s basketball and had top 10 finishes in women’s swimming and men’s and women’s indoor track.
Also yesterday the final standings in the first ever Capitol One Director’s Cup Men’s competition was released and A&M and Auburn tied for third behind Florida and Virginia. Last week we told you that the A&M Women’s finished second behind Stanford. The Capitol One Cup is similar to the Director’s Cup but separates the awards into men’s and women’s divisions.
