Heat Suspected in Texas Boy’s Death

SEGUIN, Texas (AP) _ Extreme heat is suspected in the death of a 3-year-old Central Texas boy found unconscious in the family car.

He was found about 5 p.m. Sunday at the family’s home 23 miles east of San Antonio near the town of New Berlin.

Guadalupe County Sheriff Arnold Zwicke says the boy was napping with his father when he apparently awakened and wandered off to the car. A search later found him in the car. He was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

The child’s name hasn’t been released.

The National Weather Service reports temperatures at the scene approached 100 degrees Sunday.

The Kansas-based advocacy organization Kids and Cars says the child is the fourth to die in a hot vehicle in Texas this year and the 10th in the nation.
