DALLAS (AP) _ Megachurch pastor T.D. Jakes told his congregation Sunday morning he had had “the week from hell” and called the arrest of his stepson “unfortunate,” but pledged to provide him with “help, support, and restorative grace.”
Dallas police accused Jermaine Jakes of exposing himself Jan. 3 to two undercover vice detectives in a public park near The Potter’s House, the Dallas megachurch his stepfather leads.
The younger Jakes, 29, was detained at the scene and released. He turned himself in Thursday and was released on a $1,000 personal recognizance bond.
The charge is a Class B misdemeanor, punishable by up to six months in jail and a $2,000 fine.
Pastor Jakes (pictured right) read a statement to his congregation during the 8 a.m. service in which he said parents love for their children isn’t diminished when they don’t live up their highest ideals.
Pastor Jakes, who said he “had the week from hell” said he had every intention of preaching Sunday, after the news of the arrest affidavit was made public.
