Campus Gun Bill Stalls Again in Texas Senate

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ The Texas Senate voted in favor of allowing concealed handguns in public university classrooms, but the measure stalled again when an angry lawmaker prevented a final vote on the issue.

In its first full vote on the controversial measure, the Senate voted 19-11 to support an amendment by Sen. Jeff Wentworth, R-San Antonio. The amendment was tacked onto a bill giving schools greater flexibility to deal with pending budget cuts.

But Sen. Judith Zaffirini, the author of the bill that was changed, opposes the guns measure. She pulled her bill from further consideration to stop the guns issue from moving forward.

She has vowed to let the bill die.
