One Dead, Seven Hurt in Waco Police Pursuit Crash

WACO, Texas (AP) _ A pedestrian is dead and seven other people are injured after a sport utility vehicle being pursued by McLennan County deputies ran a stop sign and slammed into a city bus in Waco.

The incident happened late Wednesday morning when the sheriff’s deputies stopped the suspect SUV and called Waco police for backup. Police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton says that before police arrived, the suspect SUV sped off, ran the stop sign and slammed into the side of the bus.

The impact spun the bus into the pedestrian, pinning him against another vehicle and trapping him below the bus.

Swanton says the SUV occupants were among the seven injured taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center. They’ve been charged with manslaughter and burglary.
