Power Outage Forces Early Dismissal at Kemp Elementary

A Bryan elementary school dismissed school early Monday after a power outage.

Kemp Elementary dismissed at noon after district officials learned it would likely be mid-afternoon before power was restored. The reason for the outage was not released.

This is the second early dismissal for a Bryan elementary school campus this year because of power problems. Classes were dismissed early on February 1 at Navarro Elementary School after strong winds knocked trees into power lines.

The following is the release sent out Monday (April 25) by the Bryan Independent School District:

A power outage at Kemp Elementary has resulted in an early dismissal for that campus today. Students will be released for pickup at noon. Bus riders and students who walk or bike to school will be held at the campus for the time being, with the possibility of being transported to another location for the remainder of the day. If those students are moved to another location, parents will be notified via the ParentLink call system and website postings.

BTU is working to restore power to the campus, but has estimated it will be mid-afternoon before that happens.
