Mall Rage Lands FW Teacher in Jail

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) _ An elementary teacher is accused of attacking an elderly couple at a mall during a field trip.

Fort Worth school officials say Brenda Jones Stafford, a fifth-grade teacher, was placed on administrative leave earlier this week.

Stafford posted bond and was released from jail Saturday after her arrest at an Arlington mall. Stafford, who faces a charge of suspicion of injury to the elderly, declined to comment.

She’s accused of choking and pushing a 71-year-old woman in a food court after they argued and spat at each other. Stafford had been moving chairs for her group and apparently kept hitting the elderly woman’s leg.

Then Stafford is accused of shoving, hitting and choking the woman’s 73-year-old husband when he tried to intervene. Police say the couple didn’t need medical treatment.
