The College Station City Council heard a presentation Thursday afternoon as part of their workshop meeting regarding a new state law that starts September 1.

The new law will allow a community to ban handheld cell phone use in a school zone if signs are present to warn drivers.
Both Bryan and College Station are considering whether the signs are a good idea, but neither community will have the signs in place by September 1.
Capps says they have started researching the new law, but he is not yet sure whether the signs are a good idea.
The College Station City Council sent the issue to their transportation committee, and should hear an update in about two months.
Bryan city staff are preparing a report that they plan to deliver to their Council
