Hutchison Releases Tax Records

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Records show U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison and her husband, Ray, made $6.8 million and paid $1.9 million in federal taxes since 2001.

The figures come from their past eight tax returns, which the Hutchison campaign released Wednesday.

Sen. Hutchison was paid a government salary of $169,300 last year and Ray Hutchison, a prominent Dallas bond attorney, earns a yearly salary of about $470,000, the records show.

The Hutchisons made $1.3 million in 2006, their highest income this decade, after clearing $423,830 on the sale of their Washington, D.C., home.

Hutchison, the state’s senior senator, is trying to oust Gov. Rick Perry in a red hot Republican primary. The candidates’ wealth has become an increasingly contentious issue.
