LOUISVILLE – The Texas A&M softball team ranks No. 8 in the NFCA Preseason Poll, the organization announced Tuesday. It marks the highest ranking for the Aggies in the preseason poll since 2018 when the Maroon & White started at No. 6.
The top-10 preseason ranking is the fourth for the Aggies after being ranked No. 7 in the Softball America and ESPN/USA Softball polls, while D1 Softball placed the Aggies at No. 9. Texas A&M is slated to play 31 games against teams either ranked in the top 25 or receiving votes in the NFCA Preseason Poll, including 14 games against top 15 teams at Davis Diamond.
NFCA All-American Emiley Kennedy highlights the group of Aggie returners after finishing the 2024 season with a 24-11 record. The senior ranked third in the nation in shutouts (10) and complete games (24), while she was top 20 in the country in wins (24), strikeouts (200) and innings pitched (202.2). In total, the Aggies return 13 letterwinners after finishing the 2024 campaign with a 44-15 record and its first NCAA Super Regional appearance since 2018.
San Diego State graduate transfer Mac Barbara leads the group of 14 newcomers, which includes nine high school signees and five transfers. Barbara was recently named to the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top 53 Watch List after finishing the 2024 year as the Mountain West Conference leader in on-base percentage (.508) and her 14 home runs were fifth-most in the league. Other notable transfers include Olivia Johnson (Washington), Ariel Kowalewski (Florida), Sidne Peters (Washington) and Grace Sparks (Ole Miss). KK Dements leads the rookies after recently being named to the D100 Freshman Watch List by D1 Softball and Softball America Freshman Watch List. Freshman pitchers Taylor Brown (Missouri), Sydney Lessentine (New Mexico) and Kate Munnerlyn (California) each earned Gatorade Player of the Year honors in their respective state in 2024.
Texas A&M hosts the Aggie Classic to open the 2025 campaign on Feb. 6 against Utah State at 4:30 p.m. and Purdue at 7 p.m. at Davis Diamond.
