DALLAS (AP) _ A deal has evaporated that would have ended the property dispute involving George W. Bush’s presidential library at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
Former condominium owner Gary Vodicka said Tuesday that the agreement reached last month fell apart after SMU tried to expand the deal beyond its original terms, which are confidential.
SMU attorney Mark Lanier said Vodicka and another plaintiff are trying to get more money out of the school.
Vodicka and the other condo owner sued SMU four years ago, saying the school illegally acquired their homes and lied about its intention to use the property for the Bush library.
SMU has said the process was lawful and that it did not intend to bid for Bush’s presidential library when it began buying condo units in 1999.
