Texas A&M Volleyball Set for First Round at NCAA Tournament

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Texas A&M volleyball team opens its postseason campaign Friday evening as it faces Colorado State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Desert Financial Arena with first serve set for 5:30 p.m.

The Aggies secured qualification to the NCAA Tournament for the 27th time in their history and second-straight berth under head coach Jamie Morrison’s leadership. Following a 19-7 regular season record and a 10-6 ledger in SEC play, the Maroon & White ensured themselves a No. 6 seed for the postseason and will face the Rams in the tournament opener.

A&M enters the match versus Colorado state with plenty of momentum, as it won its previous-four fixtures only dropping two sets in that stretch. The Rams similarly have won four in a row, including two matches to close out the Mountain West regular season title, followed by back-to-back victories to take the conference tournament crown.

Friday’s match will be the 10th meeting between the programs and first in nine years. The Rams hold the advantage in the all-time series at 6-3, but A&M won the most recent fixture at home in 2015 in a five-set shootout, 3-2. The teams will meet at a neutral site in round one, where they both have 2-0 records this season.

The Maroon & White are led into the tournament by a pair of All-SEC First Team selections, as Logan Lednicky and Ifenna Cos-Okpalla were named to the 2024 All-SEC First Team. This was Lednicky’s third-straight All-SEC selection, while Cos-Okpalla earned her first SEC postseason award selection.

Entering the tournament, the Aggies rank among the leaders in the country in four statistical categories, including 26th in assists per set (12.94), 35th in blocks per set (2.54), 38th in hitting percentage (.256) and 43rd in kills per set (13.61).
