Texas A&M Women’s Tennis Has Two Punch Ticket to NCAA Championships

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

ANN ARBOR – Daria Smetannikov claimed a spot in the upcoming NCAA Individual Championships with Sunday’s victory in ITA Central Sectional Championship play at Michigan’s Varsity Tennis Center.

With the NCAA bid on the line, Smetannikov topped No. 50 Sydni Ratliff of Ohio State, 6-3, 6-0 in a 5-8 playoff match.

No. 9 Nicole Khirin, who earned her NCAA Championship spot Saturday, was also victorious Sunday. She bested No. 45 Lily Jones of Michigan, 7-5, 7-5 to claim co-champion status at the ITA Central Sectional.

Three Aggies have earned an NCAA tournament invitation with Khirin and Smetannikov joining No. 1 Mary Stoiana who earned her spot at the ITA Texas Regional. The NCAA Individual Championships are slated for Nov. 19-24 in Waco.

All NCAA Individual Championship selections will be announced Monday at 11 a.m. with the tournament bracket revealed Saturday at 5 p.m.
