BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M volleyball team returns home for a matchup with No. 23 Florida Friday evening in Reed Arena with first serve set for 8 p.m.
The Aggies concluded a three-match road stint, picking up a pair of 3-1 wins at then-No. 24 Auburn and Ole Miss followed by a down-to-the-wire loss at LSU, 3-2. A&M sits tied for fifth in the league with a 3-2 record and holds a 12-3 ledger overall on the season.
Florida also enters the fixture following a loss after being swept by South Carolina Sunday at home. The Gators are 11-5 on the year, and stand tied for eighth in the SEC at 2-3. Florida is consistent on the road at 3-1 this season, while A&M boasts a 6-1 record in Reed Arena.
The teams have met 24 times in their history, with the Gators holding a strong lead in the all-time series. The Aggies faced Florida twice last year, in this first meeting they captured the programs first win in Gainesville in a five-set thriller (3-2), in the return fixture the Gators secured a 3-1 victory in Reed Arena.
Following the first five matches of conference play, the Aggies rank second in the league in kills per set (13.84), third in assists per set (13.11), third in opponent hitting percentage (.174), third in third in blocks per set (2.58) and sixth in hitting percentage (.264). The Gators excel at the service line, leading the conference in aces per set averaging 2.08 per frame and they rank second in hitting percentage as a group (.294).
Offensively, Logan Lednicky has been the driving force for A&M as the junior has 243 kills on the year and averages 4.26 per set which is the highest average of her career. On defense, Ifenna Cos-Okpalla leads the group at the net with 84 total blocks on the year which breaks down to 1.47 per set, while Ava Underwood paces the team in digs with 172 this season and 3.02 a frame.
