73 Year Old Bryan Man Admits To His 10th Felony Theft With Prior Convictions

A 73 year old Bryan man now has ten convictions for felony theft with prior convictions. Last Friday (October 4), James Oliver Ross and the district attorney’s office reached a plea agreement for thefts that took place in November 2022 and in November and December of 2023. Ross was given a prison sentence of seven years that covers all those cases. Two of the convictions involve the thefts of steaks. A College Station police arrest report says six were taken from the College Station Walmart, valued at $126 dollars. And a Bryan police arrest report says four packages of skirt steaks were taken from the Walmart on Briarcrest, valued at $54 dollars. Online court records shows Ross’s ten felony theft convictions with priors date back to 1989.

Proposed Voluntary Rental Inspection Ordinance In College Station Is Discussed By The City Council Before Delaying A Vote

The city of College Station has 32,000 rental housing units. The last couple of years, the College Station city council has received multiple complaints from Texas A&M students about the condition of rental housing. Monday night’s council meeting (October 7) included 90 minutes of comments about a proposed voluntary rental housing inspection ordinance. On a four to two vote, the council delayed action until their next meeting on October 24th. That would allow A&M students another opportunity to speak and the council to get a report from Texas A&M’s off campus housing office…both in an effort for the council to gauge if improvements in the city’s See, Click, and Fix reporting app is enough that a voluntary inspection ordinance is not needed. Joining Elizabeth Cunha, who made the motion to delay a vote, were Bob Yancy, Mark Smith, and Linda Harvell. Opposed to delaying the vote were John Nichols and Dennis Maloney.
