Bryan Police And Bryan ISD Announce A Student’s Arrest For Threatening To Shoot Another Student

Bryan police and Bryan ISD announce a student was arrested for threatening to shoot another student. The joint news release says no gun was found and there was no threat to the school, students, or staff. The threat took place Thursday morning (September 26) inside BISD’s district alternative education program high school (DAEP), which moved over the summer to the former Milam elementary building near Henderson Park. The student’s verbal threat was overheard by an administrator. The student, whose age and gender were not released, was taken to juvenile detention on a misdemeanor charge of exhibition, use, or threat of exhibition or use of a firearm. News release from Bryan police and Bryan ISD: On September 26th, 2024, at approximately 11:23 a.m., BISD administration along with Bryan Police Department School Resource Officers responded to a verbal threat made by a student regarding shooting another student. This incident took place at the District Alternative Education Program High School (DAEP). The verbal threat was overheard by a school administrator and immediately reported and addressed. During the investigation, it was determined no firearm was displayed or located. It was also determined there was no threat to the school, students or staff. The juvenile student was placed under arrest and transported to the Brazos County Juvenile Detention Center and booked in for Texas Education Code 37.125 Exhibition, Use, or Threat of Exhibition or Use of Firearms. Due to the arrest involving a juvenile, no further information will be released. Texas Education Code – EDUC 37.125. Exhibition, Use, or Threat of Exhibition or Use of Firearms (a) A person commits an offense if, in a manner intended to cause alarm or personal injury to another person or to damage school property, the person intentionally: (3) threatens to exhibit or use a firearm in or on property described by Subdivision (1)(A) or on a bus described by Subdivision (1)(B). (c) An offense under Subsection (a)(3) is a Class A misdemeanor. The Bryan Police Department and BISD ask that parents speak to their children and remind them of the seriousness of making threats towards the schools, students or staff. The Bryan Police Department will continue to thoroughly investigate all of these cases to protect students and staff.

Bryan Police Arrest A Bryan ISD Bus Driver On A DWI Charge

A Bryan ISD school bus on the road with students Thursday morning (September 26) struck a parked vehicle south of Midtown Park. Bryan police report no students were injured, and no one was in the parked vehicle. The bus driver, 64 year old Mark Spicker of Bryan, was arrested for DWI with passengers in the bus who were under the age of 15. What Bryan police describe as a “minor accident” took place just before 7 a.m. at Lakeview and Fairway. Online jail records as of 2:30 p.m. Thursday does not list bond being set. Bryan ISD released the following letter that was sent by the principal of Jane Long Intermediate School: In an effort to maintain transparency, while there were no reported injuries, I’m calling to inform you about a bus incident that occurred this morning. School bus # 215 scraped the side of an unoccupied parked vehicle on its way to Jane Long with students on board. Another driver arrived and drove the bus to the campus. All students are at school and their families have been notified. While the rest of the school bus routes were not involved in this incident, we wanted to let all families know that no injuries were reported. District administrators and officers from the Bryan Police Department responded immediately. Bryan PD arrested the driver under suspicion of driving while intoxicated. The driver has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation. As you know, safety remains our top priority in Bryan ISD and we work closely with local law enforcement to investigate and take appropriate action

Brazos County Sheriff’s Office Business At This Week’s County Commission Meeting

For the first time in six months, the inmate population at the Brazos County jail is under 800. Sheriff Wayne Dicky reported to county commissioners on Tuesday (September 24) there were 793 inmates. The last time the inmate population was under 800 was on March 26th. The sheriff said “what we hope is that it’s the beginning of that seasonal decline. We hope that sticks.” Hear comments from Wayne Dicky from the September 24, 2024 Brazos County commission meeting.   During the same meeting, commissioners were questioned about an agreement with the Washington D.C. police department and the U.S. attorney’s office. County judge Duane Peters said the county is reimbursed for sending law enforcement officers to next January’s presidential inauguration. Peters was responding to a citizen’s comment that the winning political party should pay for those going to Washington.
