Texas A&M Soccer Blanks Central Connecticut

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The Texas A&M women’s soccer team rolled to its third consecutive shutout win with Thursday evening’s 2-0 victory over the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils at CCSU Soccer Field.

The Maroon & White strong together three shutouts in a row for the first time since the first three contests of the 2022 campaign.

The Aggie defense was stout once again. The backline of Adysen Armenta, Carolyn Calzada, Macy Matula and Margo Matula held CCSU to just five shots in the contest and only one shot on goal. Grace McClellan recorded her second shutout of the season and the third of her career at Texas A&M. It was the fifth clean sheet of the year for the Maroon & White.

Texas A&M took some time acclimating to the slower artificial turf at CCSU Soccer Field and held just a 6-3 advantage in shots and 3-2 in corner kicks in the first half as the game was 0-0 at the intermission. But the Maroon & White surged in the second half, owning a 16-2 edge in shots, including 7-1 in shots-on-goal.

The Aggies broke the scoring seal in the 53rd minute with returning leading scorer Jazmine Wilkinson notching her first goal of the season. She connected off a deep ball played from the A&M penalty box by Margo Matula off a McClellan goal kick. Kennedy Clark also found the goal column for the first time in 2024, notching hers in the 71st minute scoring off Allison Lowrey’s header following a Macy Matula free kick.

The victory was number 499 for the Aggies who look to become the first SEC team and first Lone Star State squad to record 500 wins when they return to action Sunday.
