Texas A&M Soccer Gets Win Over Fairfield

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M women’s soccer team sent 5,241 fans home happy on Fish Camp Night with a 3-0 win against the Fairfield Stags at Ellis Field.

Mia Pante, Sydney Becerra and Margo Matula accounted for the Aggies’ goals which all came in the first half. The Maroon & White registered two set piece goals with Becerra converting on a free kick from 21 yards and Matula heading in a corner kick offering from Leah Pirro. Allison Lowrey and MaKhiya McDonald added assists, both on the Pante tally.

Sydney Fuller earned her first shutout in goal. With the backline roster of Adysen Armenta, Carolyn Calzada, Bella James, Macy Matula and Margo Matula menacing the Stags’ attack, Fuller needed to make just one save. Two different freshmen have logged shutouts in goal for the Aggies with Maysen Veronda posting a 5-0 blanking at Lamar in the season opener.

Head coach G Guerrieri earned his 512th coaching victory, moving within one triumph of matching former Florida skipper Becky Burleigh for eighth place on the NCAA all-time women’s soccer wins list across all divisions.

Texas A&M dominated stat sheet in shots (20-5) and shots-on-goal (8-1) and corner kicks were even at 3-3. The disparity was larger before the intermission with the Aggies logging an 11-1 edge in shots, including 6-1 in shots-on-goal.
