Texas A&M Athletics Announces Celebration of 50 Years of Women’s Athletics

News release from Texas A&M Athletics:

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M Athletics and Director of Athletics Trev Alberts announced the year-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of women’s athletics in Aggieland Wednesday.

“We are incredibly excited to celebrate the rich history of women’s athletics at Texas A&M this year,” Alberts said. “We will honor and revisit some of the most memorable moments, student-athletes and figures that have shaped these 50 years. We are very proud of everyone that has contributed to this past half century, and we cannot wait to see how our current and future student-athletes add to that legacy.”

In the summer of 1974, women’s athletics was officially made part of the Texas A&M Athletics Department for the 1974-75 season. To commemorate the golden anniversary, athletics will highlight big moments and accomplishments, telling the stories of those who have helped build women’s athletics at Texas A&M through the past 50 years through in-venue recognitions, on social media and on 12thMan.com.

A detailed timeline of major milestones and athletics accomplishments, including the first women’s sporting events in school history, national championships, conference championships and everything else along the way can be found here. All of Texas A&M’s featured written and video content can be found on the site throughout the year of celebration as it is released.

The celebration of 50 years of women’s athletics at Texas A&M will officially commence on Wednesday, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. at Ellis Field when Aggie soccer hosts Denver with in-venue and social media recognitions.
