A 17 year old was shot to death Sunday night (July 28) in College Station.
As of Monday at 11 a.m., the only information released by College Station police is that 9-1-1 received multiple calls reporting gunfire, an officer finding the victim in the area of George Bush East and University Oaks, and that family members have been notified of the young man’s death.
The median price for a house in the College Station-Bryan market is $309,950. That is up 0.2% compared to the same quarter last year. Jef Conn, Chairman of Texas Realtors, says one thing that has changed more significantly is active listings. “There are a lot more homes on the market today for buyers to choose from than last year. Active listings are up 53%,” says Conn. Conn does not expect the increase in active listings to impact the median price of a home. “The price is just a product of supply and demand, and even though there is 53% more supply, there is still a lot of demand for a homes,” says Conn. Conn says what happens in the second half of the year depends on what happens with interest rates. “If we see a slight reduction in interest rates, I think there are a lot of people who have been waiting on the sidelines who will come back to the table and want to buy a home, so that could increase demand more than what we’ve got,” says Conn. According to the Texas Realtors report, homes are staying on the market for 59 days, which is about 6 more days than this quarter last year. College Station ISD’s superintendent tells his board that it’s time to talk about a subject that no one wants to discuss…changing campus boundaries. Tim Harkrider brought up rezoning during June’s CSISD board meeting as he asked members to consider dropping the annual requirement that was established seven years ago to spend $25,000 dollars on a demographer to review campus populations. A majority of College Station city council members tentatively supports contributing something towards the Salvation Army’s $9.1 million dollar capital campaign. How much, was not reached during a budget workshop discussion on July 16th. College Station council members were told that the Salvation Army was seeking $500,000 dollars apiece from the cities of College Station and Bryan and from Brazos County. At the time of the College Station council discussion, the request had not been brought up by the Bryan council or the county commission. Supporters of matching what Bryan and the county does were Mark Smith, Dennis Maloney, and Linda Harvell. Mayor John Nichols was willing to consider less than $500,000 dollars. He was also interested in what the Bryan council and county commission does. William Wright supported a contribution, but he did not indicate how much. Elizabeth Cunha wanted more information before making a decision. And Bob Yancy told the mayor he was opposed to a city contribution.
