News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M men’s golf team bolstered its roster for the 2024-25 campaign with the addition of Jacob Sosa, a rising junior with two years of Big 12 experience, head coach Brian Kortan announced Tuesday.
“We are very excited to have Jacob join our already strong Aggie golf family,” Kortan said. “He’s extremely talented, reaching as high as No. 108 in the world amateur rankings. He has posted great results the past two seasons while competing at some of college golf’s most prestigious venues. Jacob’s work ethic and desire to compete for team championships aligns very well with our program.”
Sosa arrives in Aggieland after two seasons at Texas. Last season with the Longhorns, he posted a 72.50 scoring average, competing in nine tournaments totaling 20 rounds. Sosa logged two top-10 performances, including a seventh-place effort at the Sahalee Players Championship and a fourth-place showing at the Olympia Fields Country Club/Fighting Illini Invitational.
The Austin native competed in 10 events as a freshman, logging a 72.28 scoring average. He set a UT program record for low 18-hole score with an 11-under 61 to open the Southwestern Invitational, carding three eagles, five birdies and no bogeys in the round.
“I knew Texas A&M was the right place for me because of the environment Coach Kortan and Coach (Matt) Fast cultivate geared toward growth and success,” Sosa said. “I believe they will guide me to become the best player and person I can be. No doubt this is an exceptional team, and I’m stoked to be a part of the tight knit group of guys that play their hearts out for each other.”
Sosa enjoyed a brilliant prep career at Austin Westlake High School. He led the Chaparrals to three consecutive UIL Class 6A state titles, finishing third, runner-up and fifth during the championship runs. He earned Rolex Junior All-American Third Team and was ranked No. 14 in the AJGA class of 2022.
