News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
EUGENE – Texas A&M track & field’s Lianna Davidson finished second in the women’s javelin at the NCAA Championships following a personal-best showing which secured her First Team All-America honors Thursday at Hayward Field.
Davidson opened the women’s javelin event at the national championships with a bang, recording a staggering personal-best mark of 60.70m/199-2 on her opener. The mark was the collegiate-leading attempt, and it was Davidson’s first time over 60m. Her throw held through four rounds, however she was bested in the fifth by a collegiate-record mark which knocked her into second place. The Sydney, Australia, native has now secured back-to-back years with First Team All-America honors in the event, while also making a dent in Aggie all-time great Maggie Malone’s records, as she now holds the No. 4 mark ever by a member of the Maroon & White.
A&M punched a ticket into Saturday’s finals, as the 4x400m relay quartet of Jaydan Wood, Camryn Dickson, Jermaisha Arnold and Kennedy Wade finished third in their heat in 3:28.73 and advanced eighth overall.
Also on the track, the women’s 4x100m group started the day for the Maroon & White, as Semira Killebrew, Dickson, Leeah Burr and Laila Hackett finished 12th overall with a time of 43.54 for Second Team All-America honors.
Killebrew added her second All-America honor of the day with a 16th-place finish in the 100m crossing the line in 11.26, while Arnold added the third honor, placing 10th in the women’s 400m just one spot shy of reaching the final with a mark of 51.42.
Another four Aggies captured Honorable Mention honors, as Dickson claimed a pair in the 100m and 200m, Jaiya Covington logged hers in the 100m hurdles, Nissi Kabongo added one in the 400m hurdles and Heather Abadie rounded the total out in the pole vault.
