Two Bryan men awaiting criminal trials on charges dating back to 2023 are arrested following a high speed chase.
The arrest report from the department of public safety says a trooper clocked a car on Rudder Freeway in Bryan near Woodville Road going 90 in a 70 mile per hour zone.
The car reached a top speed of 118 miles per hour, made numerous unsafe lane changes, and almost caused two crashes.
The more than ten minute pursuit ended when the car suffered a mechanical failure on Texas Avenue north of Highway 21.
The driver, 20 year old Anthony Hammond Jr. of Bryan, was arrested for reckless driving, evading, and unlawful carrying of a gun. Hammond is out of jail after posting bonds totaling $14,000 dollars.
A passenger arrested for possessing a stolen gun, 19 year old Jaheem Elmore of Bryan, is out of jail after posting a $5,000 dollar bond.
Elmore is awaiting two trials in Brazos County district court. One is on charges of felony robbery, felony assault of an officer, and misdemeanor resisting arrest following a disturbance in January 2023 in a bathroom at Bryan ISD’s Mary Catherine Harris alternative school. The other trial involves a misdemeanor charge of assault causing bodily injury that took place in February 2023.
Hammond is awaiting a district court trial on a misdemeanor charge of possessing marijuana that took place in May 2024.
