Aggie Women’s Tennis’ Stoiana Advances to NCAA Singles Semifinals

STILLWATER – Texas A&M’s No. 1 Mary Stoiana advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament singles bracket following a straight-set victory in the quarterfinals Thursday at the Greenwood Tennis Center.

Continuing her stellar run in Stillwater, Stoiana added the fourth-consecutive straight-set victory in the NCAA singles bracket. The junior faced UC Santa Barbara’s No. 51 Amelia Honer in the quarterfinals, downing her 7-5, 6-4 to advance to the final four. Stoiana has now won 17-straight singles matches and holds a 38-3 record heading into the penultimate round.

Texas A&M’s No. 4 seeded doubles teams’ tournament run came to an end in the quarterfinals, as Mia Kupres and Stoiana fell to Tennessee’s No. 11 Sofia Cabezas/Elza Tomase. The Aggie duo concluded their outstanding season with a 28-7 record and garnered All-America status, NCAA All-Tournament Team honors and All-SEC First Team accolades.
