News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M left-hander Ryan Prager has been named the SEC Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday morning.
The weekly honor marks the fourth of the year for the Aggie pitching staff and the first for the redshirt sophomore.
Prager was brilliant in Thursday’s shutout win over No. 2 Arkansas as the lefty struck out nine over seven innings of work. In his seventh quality start of the year, the lefty logged his 100th punchout of the year, becoming the first Aggie to accomplish the feat since Dustin Saenz in 2021. The outing also marked the seventh time this season the left-hander has not allowed an earned run.
On the season, Prager holds an 8-1 record to go along with a 2.47 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP. In a team-best 76.2 innings of work, the left-hander has punched out 104 batters and allowed only 13 walks. Nationally, the redshirt sophomore ranks fifth in strikeout-to-walk ratio (8.00), 12th in ERA (2.47), 12th in WHIP (0.94), 15th in walks allowed per nine (1.53), 18th in strikeouts and 22nd in wins.
Prager and the Maroon & White return action Wednesday night for their opening game of the SEC Tournament. Texas A&M will face the winner of No. 5-seed Mississippi State and No. 12-seed Ole Miss
