News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
NORMAN – The No. 8 Texas A&M men’s tennis team fell to the No. 11 Oklahoma Sooners, 5-2, Tuesday at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
“I thought it was a hard-fought match,” head coach Steve Denton said. “After getting beat in the doubles, we did a good job of responding early in the singles. We are making progress with a few guys that will make us only better in the end. We have had some hard lessons along the way that we are learning from, and I am confident that as a team, we will figure it out. I really like this team and I believe something special lies ahead.”
The Aggies (18-6, 7-2 SEC) got off to a slow start after losses on courts 2 and 3 in doubles play to go down 1-0 heading into singles action.
Luke Casper got A&M on the board with a win against Mark Mandlik on court 6 (6-1, 6-2). The Sooners (17-2, 4-0 Big 12) responded with victories on courts 1 and 2 to make the score 3-1. Togan Tokac took down Jordan Hasson on court 3 (7-6 (9-7), 6-4) to keep the match alive, but Oklahoma would clinch the victory on court 4.
The Aggies return to the Mitchell Tennis Center Sunday, April 7, to host Arkansas for the final SEC home match of the season at 1 p.m.
