News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – Ted Burton delivered “Olsen Magic” in the 12th inning and the No. 4 Texas A&M baseball team completed the three-game sweep of No. 21 Auburn (16-11, 1-8) with a 10-9 victory Saturday night from Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.
The walk-off victory marked the third of the year for the Aggies (25-3, 6-3), while the series sweep was Texas A&M’s first in SEC play since 2022.
In the 12th, Braden Montgomery, who scored the winning run, reached on a leadoff double down the right field line and advanced to third on a Jackson Appel groundout. Burton then ripped a 3-1 breaking ball back up the middle to plate the junior and seal the win.
Burton led the Maroon & White with a 3-for-5 performance at the dish to go along with a pair of RBI and two walks. The three-hit night marked the second straight for the senior and fifth of the year. Montgomery also chipped in a three-hit night along with Hayden Schott, who was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate. Freshman Gavin Grahovac (2-for-7) and senior Ryan Targac (2-for-4) rounded out the multi-hit performers for the Aggies on the night.
Weston Moss earned the win for Texas A&M after tossing two scoreless frames to go along with four strikeouts. Starter Justin Lamkin logged a no-decision after allowing four runs over 3.1 innings of work.
After the Tigers struck first with three runs in the top of the second, the Aggies responded with a pair in the bottom half to cut the deficit to 3-2. Caden Sorrell and Targac each registered an RBI in the frame for the Maroon & White.
In the third, Montgomery put Texas A&M in front, 4-3, with a two-run homer that traveled 457 feet to center. The long ball marked the junior’s fourth of the weekend and team-best 16th of the year. Later in the frame, Sorrell extended the lead with an RBI single up the middle that plated Schott, who reached on a single through the right side.
Auburn loaded the bases in the fourth with no outs but were held to only one run as Jace LaViolette threw out the potential tying run at the plate to keep Texas A&M in front 5-4.
In the bottom half of the frame, the Aggies stretched the advantage to 7-4 behind RBI singles from Jackson Appel and Burton.
After the Tigers cut into the lead in the top of the fifth with a solo homer, Grahovac responded with one of his own in the bottom half to make the score 8-5. The long ball marked the ninth of the year for the freshman and traveled 428 feet off the batter’s eye in center.
Following a three-run frame from Auburn in the eighth that evened the score at 8-8, Ali Camarillo put the Aggies back in front, 9-8, with an RBI fielder’s choice in the bottom half of the inning.
In the ninth, the Tigers tied the game, 9-9, once again courtesy of a leadoff pinch-hit home run. In the bottom half, the Maroon & White put two runners on but were unable to push across the winning run as the game headed to extras.
