Five minutes into the new year, the Bryan Police Department’s first case involved gunfire.
This was at a home near Ben Milam Elementary School, located at 1425 Beck.
Officers were told the victim, 60 year old James Wilson, was shot once in the lower left side of his neck by his roommate. Wilson ran to a neighbors house, who called 911.
Six officers and a police dog surrounded the suspects home, where 53 year old Ruben Mora came out saying the shooting was a mistake. Investigators were also told the suspect was upset over the victim not paying his share of rent.
Police found a .45 caliber handgun with the serial numbers filed off and seven spent rounds.
Mora was jailed for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and Wilson was taken to the hospital for treatment of the gunshot wound, which included a collapsed lung.
