CS Pool Revenue Up, Attendance Down

One of the budget cuts made by the College Station City Council last summer didn’t hurt the bottom line.

Closing the city’s three swimming pools one day a week was part of trimming over $46,000 from the parks and recreation department budget.

In addition to budget savings, revenue from pool operations was up over $35,000 compared to last year.

While revenue dropped at Thomas Park and Southwood Hallaran, those losses were more than made up at the city’s busiest pool.

Revenue at Adamson Lagoon was $45,000 higher than last year. That was a 30 percent increase, from over $154,000 to nearly $199,000.

As for attendance, this was the first year of a new admission system that did not count those under three years old and anyone inside the pool just watching. City staff believes that explains the drop in the official headcount from just over 100,000 last year to just under $75,000 thousand this year.
