Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman La’el Collins will have to serve all five games of his suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
A federal judge denied Collins’ request to halt the suspension with one game remaining.
The seven-year veteran claimed the punishment was in violation of the league’s collective bargaining agreement.
Another event is returning after the pandemic. For the first time since 2019, the Bryan police department is offering a junior police academy for high school students. Officer Seth Waller says participants in the two week program will be exposed to BPD’s various divisions. Waller also says BPD uses the academy in part as a recruiting tool. A local attorney who represents children in the Texas child protective services system asks Brazos County commissioners how he and others can do to get a local mental health facility. Fred Medina said during the public comment portion of the commission’s April 23rd meeting that “the lack of mental health services in this community is staggering.” Medina said “We’ve got these beautiful homes in College Station, we have working class neighborhoods where I grew up in Bryan that are immaculate. Open those doors and it’s a different story. And that’s the hidden thing that we don’t see as great as our community is.” Medina also said “We’re also having foster care children who have mental health problems who are being shipped to Harlingen Texas, who are shipped to San Antonio, Waco, the far reaches of this state. And then the parents can’t go visit them because they’re so far away.” Because the topic was not on the agenda, by state law commissioners were not allowed to respond.
