One item on Thursday night’s College Station City Council agenda was parking removal at the intersection of Welsh and Holleman. 
The parking restrictions will extend 100 feet North on Welsh.
Traffic Engineer Troy Rother says the parking was removed to improve safety and mobility.
Rother estimates the changes will cost approximately 10-15 parking spaces.
The changes will take effect in 10 days.
The deadline is approaching to take a statewide survey assessing the needs of older Texans. Stacey Urbanczyk, Program Manager for the Area Agency on Aging Brazos Valley, says survey input could impact the amount of funding their program receives. “It is very important that people who deal with seniors and love seniors and want to have input take an opportunity to do this,” says Urbanczyk. Urbanczyk says this online survey, which takes about five minutes to complete, is available through Monday, August 26th. “If we don’t let, as a community and as a region, let people know what our needs are for our seniors, nobody else may let them know,” says Urbanczyk. The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is conducting the online survey to gather input from older adults, caregivers and service providers. Click HERE to take the online survey. Almost 10,000 water customers in the Wellborn special utility district (SUD) are being warned that outdoor watering may be reduced from three to two days per week. General manager Campbell Young says if the 9,878 Wellborn customers reduce irrigation on their designated days by a few minutes, then they can stay on the present schedule. The Wellborn SUD advisory follows the Wickson Creek special utility district announcing on Thursday (August 22), the return of mandatory water restrictions. Wickson Creek’s stage one restrictions means limited outdoor watering for about 9,200 customers. That includes no outdoor irrigation between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m. and outdoor irrigation between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. on two designated days per week. A Bryan man admits to a murder that took place in College Station in October 2022. A plea agreement between 28 year old Trevor Thompson Jr. and the Brazos County district attorney’s office includes a 40 year sentence. The punishment also includes a probation revocation from an April 2014 armed robbery in Bryan. According to a D-A’s news release, Thompson shot Anthony Ayers during a fight in the parking lot of an apartment complex. The arrest report from College Station police says investigators used surveillance video from the apartment courtyard and text messages from the cell phone of the 15 year old victim to arrest Thompson. News release from the Brazos County district attorney’s office: Trevor Thompson, 28, was sentenced to 40 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice on Friday, August 16, 2024 after pleading guilty to Murder. Thompson was arrested on November 2, 2022 following an investigation into the murder of Anthony Ayers by the College Station Police Department. On October 29, 2022, CSPD was called to The Pearl Apartments following the shooting of Ayers. Witnesses described seeing Ayers and the Defendant fighting. During the fight, witnesses described hearing a gunshot and seeing Ayers run away. Ayers was later found by passers by, lying in the parking lot. During the investigation, it was determined that both individuals were in possession of guns on the night of the shooting. Officers were led to Thompson after finding calls and text messages between he and Ayers immediately prior to the shooting. As part of the investigation, officers located the weapon that was used in the shooting at the home of Thompson’s brother. Another residence connected to Thompson was searched and two shirts matching that worn by Thompson the night of the shooting were located. The work of the College Station Police Department led to a quick resolution and arrest in this case. The victim’s family was consulted prior to the plea agreement and was in agreement with the plea. The State of Texas was represented in this case by Assistant District Attorneys Kara Comte and Abigail Goodman, Victim Assistance Coordinator Melissa Carter and Investigator Dennis Thane. Statement from Brazos County assistant district attorneys Kara Comte and Abigail Goodman: “Anthony Ayers’ life was taken from him too soon by a defendant who showed a complete disregard for human life. He will spend a significant amount of time in prison for his crime and we will continue to protect this community.”
