Not All Public Agencies Are Lifting All Pandemic Prevention Protocols

The removal of Governor Abbott’s old pandemic executive order doesn’t mean all restrictions are going away at all public businesses.

At the Brazos County tax office, visitors are encouraged but not required to wear masks. Social distancing will continue in the seating area of the lobby. Employees will continue existing protocols for the foreseeable future.

At the Brazos Valley Food Bank, CDC guidelines will continue to be followed by everyone at their locations. That’s after these practices have resulted in no known pandemic transmissions.

News release from Brazos County tax assessor-collector Kristy Roe:

In accordance with the recent order by Governor Abbott rescinding the mask mandate, the Brazos County Tax Office has reviewed protocols and customer volume to identify the best processes to continue to provide safe access to the office by Brazos County residents. Office personnel will continue the existing protocols for the foreseeable future. These include temperature checks, mask requirements when the employee is not at their workstation, and social distancing in break and lunch areas.

Ongoing disinfection of the work areas and the lobby will also continue until such time as a majority of the general public has obtained immunity. The visiting public will not be required to wear masks in the lobby, but are encouraged to do so to protect the other customers and staff members. The seating in the lobby will continue to provide social distancing and the office visitors are asked to continue to observe social distancing.

Customers are encouraged to look into all of the optional services offered by the tax office for their convenience. Property tax payments can be made from the website at www.brazostax.org or by phone by calling 1-888-254-4339. Payments can be mailed to the tax office or dropped in either of the external payment drop boxes located at the tax office. Motor vehicle registrations can be submitted online from the TxDMV website, obtained from all HEB and Kroger locations in the county, mailed or dropped in the payment drop boxes. Simple vehicle registration and limited property tax payments can also be processed through the two drive through windows. For additional information, please visit our website at www.brazostax.org.

E-mail from Brazos Valley Food Bank executive director Theresa Mangapora:

Since the COVID pandemic began, BVFB has followed the guidelines established by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), requiring all employees, interns, temporary employees, donors, vendors, volunteers and other visitors to BVFB locations and work sites to adhere to daily COVID screening questions, temperature monitoring, mask wearing, social distancing and handwashing.

These practices have resulted in 0% known COVID virus transmissions at BVFB’s facility.

The health and safety of Brazos Valley Food Bank (BVFB)’s program participants, other visitors, staff and volunteers remains a top priority. Therefore, BVFB will continue all of these practices until further notice. While you may not agree with this decision, we ask that you respect it when interacting in person with BVFB.

BVFB plans to reopen its Lobby to the public beginning March 10th, since these protective measures will remain in place. Hours will be 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Food Donations should be dropped off at The Edge Dock (covered ramp at the back of the Volunteer Parking lot, until further notice). Monetary donations, meetings with staff, etc. should still be scheduled in advance.

As frontline employees serving the critical needs of our community, we need our health in order to fulfill our mission. But, as a community-based organization, we also need you and your support. It is our hope that we will still have it.
