It’s been the better part of 20 years since any streets in College Station have been modified in the attempt to slow down traffic….also known as traffic calming devices.
College Station’s traffic engineer Troy Rother says some applications are in various stages of review.
Among the proposals, is Munson Avenue between Dominik and Lincoln. At one time, gates were installed to block thru traffic. When the gates were removed, an ordinance was passed by voters by a two to one margin banning future traffic calming devices. The city council removed the ban during their June 25th meeting.
Rother said as part of the neighborhood request, a speed study showed on Munson, which has a speed limit of 25 miles per hour, a daily average of 3,000 vehicles were travelling 33 miles per hour.
