Last September, a Texas A&M student walking home was struck and killed by a hit and run driver.
A Brazos County grand jury this week has added a manslaughter charge against the driver.
According to the district attorney’s office, 18 year old Pedro Puga of Bryan is accused of recklessly causing the death of A&M sophomore Carly Beatty.
Prosecutors say manslaughter replaces an unindicted charge of intoxication assault.
And Puga remains charged with leaving the scene of an accident where a death occurred and tampering with evidence.
Beatty was walking home with friends when she was struck at Texas and University.
Puga, who was found in Bryan in the parking lot of the Tejas Center, told College Station police he was not involved in an accident.
According to the arrest report, Puga said he would have not been caught had he not taken Xanax and cocaine earlier in the night. The officer also noticed alcohol on Puga’s breath.
Puga remains jailed in lieu of bonds totaling $168,000 dollars.
