The week before students return to Texas A&M, new rules are in place for using the university’s bicycle ride sharing service.
That’s after a microscopic percentage of 750,000 rides last fall ended with bicycles landing in the wrong place.
Texas A&M transportation services bike share coordinator Byron Prestridge says VeoRide bicycles are now required to be locked to a rack or an at approved parking device.
VeoRide’s general manager of A&M operations Joe Brummer says failure to lock bicycles will result in accounts being suspended and fines of up to $75 dollars.
More than 1,200 bicycles have been modified with new locking features. Brummer says another 1,300 will have the new equipment in the next couple of weeks.
VeoRide bicycles will operate only on the main campus and at the Park West and University Gardens apartment complexes.
