Affordable Housing Discussed During The Joint Meeting Of The Bryan Business And City Councils

There was considerable discussion at this month’s annual meeting of the Bryan business and city councils about affordable housing.

Business council member and homebuilder Randy French wondered if there was another way for the city to reduce costs for low income resident to buy homes.

French says another consideration is location…citing five new homes filling empty lots remaining unsold, even though they are priced in the 180’s…which is considered affordable housing in this market.

City councilman Brent Hairston said he wasn’t surprised, and suggested finding multiple consecutive lots in existing neighborhoods to create new developments.

Two other councilmen…Reuben Marin and Prentiss Madison…are working with city staff to keep track of available lots in existing neighborhoods.
