Baylor Scott & White Opens First Phase of Expansion

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center opened the first phase of its recent expansion on Wednesday.

The new unit includes 16 intermediate care patient rooms, which Vice President of Hospital Operations, Geoff Christian, said are more patient-centric.

“We have integrated windows that are on the doors and integrated windows in the walls, so that our caregivers can actually maintain line of sight from the corridor to the interior of the rooms,” said Christian.

Regional President Jason Jennings says this is the first of three phases of the expansion.

“Our second and third phase will come in January and February where we will add eight more beds to our labor and delivery unit and three additional beds to the ER,” said Jennings.

Christian said they have needed the additional beds for a while.

“We have grown 8% year over year, or if you want to put that in number of patients, that means we have grown by 700 admissions every year for the last four years,” said Christian.

Christian said the new beds will give them the opportunity to take care of 1,700 more patients per year.

The first phase also includes a new auditorium.
